Chemical Peels Frequently Asked Questions

Is chemical peeling good for skin?

A light chemical peel improves skin texture and tone and lessens the appearance of fine wrinkles. The results are subtle but increase with repeated treatments. If you have a medium chemical peel, treated skin will be noticeably smoother.

How About Results?

Regarding visible results, they can be unpredictable and they will vary according to each person. Some of them can be seen after days, but some other after 3 weeks following their peel.

For those who receive facial treatment regularly, the chemical peel might enhance the normal aspect their skin has.

How Often Can You Get a Chemical Peel Treatment?

It is generally advised to get a chemical peel every four to six weeks. However, if you suffer from acne, there are some peels that you can do every two weeks until you find the expected results.

Most people buy a series of four or five peels up front to achieve the treatment results wanted. What is more, when you buy a series of peels upfront you will probably receive a discount.

You should also consider buying a deal that allows you to get chemical peels interspersed with microdermabrasion treatments or facials. So the microdermabrasions and the facials can enhance the results of the peel by helping to exfoliate the flaky skin you have on your face.

What to Expect After the Session

As it was already mentioned, your skin might be quite sensitive to the sun following a peel so you should be careful and apply sunscreen after your peel. Due to this sensitivity, it is not advisable to do the procedure during summer time or right before going to some place where you will be exposed to the sun continuously, like the beach or the mountains.

Then, you will notice that your skin tight and a little dry, at the same time, it might remain a bit red for around an hour after the peel. The peeling will begin approximately 3 to 5 days following your peel. It varies depending on the person and the depth of the peel. So if you do not peel after the chemical peel, you do not have to worry this is normal too. Some other can experience mild itching, as well

Remember
The peel is stimulating so you would have to modify your lifestyle behavior after a peel not to cause any extra irritation or hyperpigmentation to your skin. Try to avoid excessive exercise with sweating for a few days or any excessive heat sources like a sauna or hot tub. Plus, do not scrub or pick at your face or use retinol products or AHA products for at least 10 days following your peel.

Can you see results after 1 peel?

Everyone is different and depends on treatment
You will notice a visible improvement in your skin after one peel, but best results are obtained with multiple treatments over time. ... Just as it takes time for skin damage to accumulate, it also takes time to reverse it.

How many weeks should you get a chemical peel?

Six weeks.
It is generally advised to get a chemical peel every four to six weeks. However, if you suffer from acne, there are some peels that you can do every two weeks until you find the expected results. Most people buy a series of four or five peels up front to achieve the treatment results wanted.

How is a Peel Done?

Before going to the spa, you should exfoliate your skin so it is prepared for the peel. Besides, it will be cleansed and “degreased” before the peel is actually applied. The reason for this is all surface oils and debris are removed so that the peel can penetrate properly.

When performing the peel, you might experience some warmth over the area that is being treated. This area might be cooled down manually or with an electric fan.

On the other hand, you may feel stinging, burning, and even itching while the peel is being performed. These manifestations are completely normal and they will stop after the procedure is over. If you feel any discomfort, do not doubt telling the esthetician about it immediately.

Will a chemical peel remove dark spots?

Peels can be used to improve the appearance of acne scars, melasma, sun-damaged skin, wrinkles, and several other conditions. They can also be used to lighten dark spots. Chemical peels for lightening dark spots use chemical agents that enable the removal of the skin pigment melanin.
